This happy little creature boldly walked out in front of me as I hiked through a reserve back in Ohio. Totally unafraid, and never shrinking back into his shell, I decided to adopt him for the summer and use him as a model. I also took him to the vet and made sure to plump him up for winter before releasing him safely back to his home in the latter part of the summer.
This was another piece I fell in love with as I created. When it was cast I went to Jackson Hole, Wyoming and offered it at a gallery there. They scoffed at it and asked, “Who would ever be interested in buying a turtle?” My art is in another gallery, but wouldn’t it have been great fun to have gone back to that first gallery and explained that the first edition of 100 sold out in less than a year. We are now presenting editions 3 and 4, and have a shy turtle casting as well.
